Chilkoot Trail
The Chilkoot trail is located between the Pacific Coast and the Yukon. The Chilkoot Pass is crossing the Coast Mountains, a vast chain of mountains, and the border between Alaska (USA) and the Yukon (Canada). It was traveled by thousands of people during the gold rush. As we are walking in the steps of the pioneers, we are still feeling the value of their dreams.
One of interesting fact of the trail is the variety of landscapes. We are starting near the Pacific Ocean, walking at first into the green, wet and luxurious coastal rain forest, then, climbing slowly through the foggy area, rocky and with less vegetation. After the pass, the climate changes from wet to really dry when we are going down to the Yukon side through the boreal forest, often with many patches of snow until mid July. Not far after the summit, we are walking near the head of the Yukon River, Crater Lake. The Big River will finish his trip into the Pacific Ocean, but after crossing the Yukon Territory and the Alaska, a 3600 km journey.
This backpacking tour is moderate to difficult.
